HOW DO I DETERMINE MY HEADSIZE?
Take a cloth or vinyl coated tape measure, and place it around your head where you would like the sweatband of the hat to rest on your head. Usually, that is just above the center of the forehead in front, and on the upslope of the "lump" in back.
The tape should be above the tops of your ears on both sides. Most people like their hat to rest about one-eighth to one-half inch above the ears. Check the tape to make sure it's more or less level all around.
With the tape snug (but not too tight), read the measurment to the closest 1/2".
At Peter Beaton, women's hat sizes are based on circumference in inches. You want your headsize to fall in between the range of inches. For example:
If you measured 22", choose headsize 21.5"-22.5"
If you measure 22.5", choose headsize 22"-23"
In keeping with British tradition, Peter Beaton's men's hat sizes are based loosely on the radius of the head, so one can approximate the hat size by taking the circumference and dividing it by 3.1415 (pi).
HOW DO I CLEAN MOLD/MILDEW OFF MY STRAW HAT?
The best way to clean mold or mildew off a straw hat is to vacuum it off with a brush attachment. If this doesn't remove the mold/mildew, then dilute 1/8 cup beach or tilex in 2 cups of water. Soak a sponge in the solution and wring it out. Gently pat the barely damp sponge on the areas of mold/mildew and it should disappear. Caution: excess solution applied to mold on a straw hat will discolor it.
